Are you making the most of your IRS telephone tax refund?
On May 25, 2006, the IRS announced it would stop collecting the 3% Federal Excise Tax charged on long-distance calls (Interstate and Intrastate 1+ Direct Dial, Calling Card, and Toll Free calls as well as international calls).  In addition, any business that paid Federal Excise Tax on long-distance calls for service billed after February 28, 2003, and before August 1, 2006, is eligible for the Telephone Tax Refund from the IRS.

What POPP.com is doing to help your business calculate your Telephone Tax Refund
The IRS estimates it would take 13 hours, 37 minutes for your business to determine the amount you paid in Federal Excise Tax on long-distance calls from March 1, 2003 to July 31, 2006 (source: page 2 of Form 8913).  In an effort to save time for our customers, and help them receive the highest Telephone Tax Refunds possible, POPP.com invested our own time and money into determining the amount for you.  We archived billing data from March 2003 to July 2006 to provide you with a report that details how much your business paid in Federal Excise Tax on long-distance calls during the 41-month period.  We are pleased to provide you with the inventory (enclosed with your December invoice) as an added convenience of being a POPP.com customer.

What your business needs to do to receive the Telephone Tax Refund
You must request the Telephone Tax Refund on your 2006 tax return using Form 8913, Credit for Telephone Excise Tax Paid (found at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8913.pdf).  There are two ways of calculating your Telephone Tax Refund (use the method resulting in a higher refund for your business):

1.   Use the formula established by the IRS found at: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=164310,00.html

2.  Document the actual refundable Federal Excise Tax paid over the 41-month period (POPP.com provided each of our customers with a report including this information)
