About Us

POPP Communications (POPP^®) provides voice and data communication over worldwide telecom and Internet networks.  We have two product groups:
1. Communication Networks – Network connections outside your office
2. Communication Equipment – Telephone and local area network (LAN) equipment inside your office

POPP was incorporated in 1981 as LDB Corporation and licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as an Interexchange Carrier (IXC). In 1998, POPP received authority from the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) to operate as a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC). Today, we serve over 9,000 businesses and employ over 100 people.

POPP is a pioneer in the competitive telecom industry and has played a role in significantly reducing voice and data communication rates. When POPP started in 1981, long distance rates were 45 cents per minute—today, POPP rates are as low as 3 cents per minute. In 1998, phone lines were $55 and T-1s were $1200—today, POPP phone lines are as low as $18 and T-1s are as low as $200. You would be hard pressed to find any other industry where the introduction of competition has reduced rates so dramatically. We are proud of the role we’ve played in reducing rates and intend to keep the pressure on.

POPP understands the important role that voice, Internet and data communication plays in everyday business activities and is focused on helping small businesses use popular communication technologies to support their goals, policies and processes. Since our beginning, POPP has focused on developing industry-leading products and services as well as innovative features that help businesses use their telecommunication services as a tool to save time and money. In 1982, POPP introduced account codes at the carrier level.  In 1985, POPP was one of the first companies in the world to sell fax machines. In 2001, POPP introduced a first-of-its-kind billing and reporting system.
